ABSTRACT:
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: A study to assess the effectiveness of video teaching programme on diet and stress management among patients with peptic ulcer Disease in RMMCH, Annamalai University. Chidambaram. OBJECTIVES: • To assess the knowledge and attitude about diet and stress management among patients with peptic ulcer disease. • To test the effectiveness of video teaching programme on knowledge and attitude on diet and stress management among patients with peptic ulcer disease. • To associate the pretest knowledge and attitude of the patients with peptic ulcer on diet and stress management with certain demographic Variables such as age, occupation, and clinical variables such as duration of illness and pain. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY: To determine the effectiveness of Video teaching programme on diet and stress management among patients with peptic ulcer disease in RMMCH, the researcher used one group pretest and posttest design. 50 patients with peptic ulcer who met the inclusion criteria were selected. The study was conducted after obtaining approval from Institutional Human Ethics Committee. Permission was also obtained from the Medical Superintendent in RMMCH. Participants were informed about the study and written consent was obtained from each sample, in RMMCH RESULTS: The study findings reveal that 14 (28%) of the patients had inadequate knowledge in pretest. After Video Teaching Programme, 50 (100%) of the patients had adequately knowledge. On level of attitude findings 2 (4%) either positive or negative attitude level. 47 (97%) of the Patients had Positive attitude level. After video teaching programme 50 (100%) of the Patients had fully Positive attitude level. This present study findings were similar to the findings of the Higgin L (2005). He assessed the effectiveness of providing diet education on gastritis and the result showed that the strategy was very effective. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that effectiveness of video teaching programme on diet and stress management among patients with peptic ulcer Disease is effective.
