ABSTRACT:
Mobile phone usage is very common now a day among school students. There are large numbers of impacts of mobile phone usage among the individual’s health like headache, vision disturbances, stress etc. These problems are enough to interfere with the daily life of the individual. A descriptive study was conducted to assess the knowledge on impact of mobile phone usage among higher secondary school students at selected school in Jammu. The objectives of the study were to assess the level of knowledge on impact of mobile phone usage among higher secondary school students and to find the association between knowledge on impact of mobile phone usage among higher secondary school students with their selected socio demographic variables. 100 higher secondary school students who fulfil the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected using random sampling technique. A self structured questionnaire with socio demographic variables and knowledge regarding the impact of mobile phone usage was used as a tool. Out of 100, 42 (42%) students had inadequate knowledge, 52 (52%) had average knowledge and 6 (6%) students had adequate knowledge regarding impact of mobile phone usage. Occupational status of father had significant association with the level of knowledge regarding impact of mobile phone usage whereas Age, Sex, Class, Residence, Educational status of father, Educational status of mother, Occupational status of mother, Religion and Previous knowledge had no association with the level of knowledge regarding impact of mobile phone usage.
