Depression and anxiety are psychological symptoms of stress. These disorders are important factors affecting mental health that interferes with the professional roles and responsibility assumed by individual. Stress may be referred to as an unpleasant state of emotional and physiological arousal that people experience in situation that they perceive as dangerous or threatening to their wellbeing. Anxiety is a common illness among older adults affecting as many as 10-20% of older population though it is often undiagnosed and they often go untreated for a number of reasons. Anxiety causes feelings of fear, worry apprehension or dread that are excessive or disappointed which ultimately affect badly on the health of the individual. on the other hand stress affect on cardiovascular system, sensory system, gastro-intestinal system or it may lower the immune system or create dental issues. AIM: Aim of the study to assess the level of anxiety and stress among the senior citizen and to find out the co-relation among stress and anxiety residing in selected areas of Ludhiana, Punjab. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Non- experimental descriptive study design was selected for the study. The pilot study was conducted in Moti Nagar, Ludhiana on 6 senior citizens to ensure the reliability and feasibility of tool. The final study was conducted on 60 senior citizens in selected areas of Ludhiana. The data collection procedure was done through convenience sampling technique. Standardized DASS 21 scale was used to assess the anxiety and stress among senior citizen. RESULTS: It was concluded that maximum number of senior citizens had minimum level of anxiety and stress. CONCLUSION: Hence it can be concluded that 96.6% of senior citizen were having mild anxiety and 91.6% were having mild stress. There was positive co-relation between stress and anxiety that is 0.90.
