ABSTRACT:
A study to evaluate the effectiveness of educational intervention programme on knowledge and practice about dengue fever among people visiting at selected PHC in Puducherry. The objectives of the study were, (a) to evaluate the effectiveness of Educational Intervention Programme on Knowledge and Practice about Dengue Fever among people. (b) To associate the post-test level of Knowledge and Practice about Dengue Fever among people with their selected demographic variables. A Quantitative research approach with pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was adopted for the study. Health centres were selected randomly and a total of 60 samples were selected by using convenience sampling technique. After pre-test educational Intervention Programme on Dengue fever was given for 30 minutes through power point presentation on the same day. Post test was conducted on 8th day following the intervention with same tool. For analyzing the data, descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (paired “t” test and chi square) were used. The results revealed that the mean score of Knowledge and practice was increased from the pre-test score of 17.60±4.34 and 39.37±3.25 to post test score of 26.25±3.94 and 44.08±5.34. The mean difference was 8.65 and 4.72. This result was found to be statistically significant at p<0.001 level. There is also a significant association of post-test level of knowledge with demographic variable (education; p= 0.0001). Hence this study revealed that Educational Intervention Programme on Dengue fever improved the level of Knowledge and Practices among people to control and prevent Dengue fever.
