ABSTRACT:
Swine Flu-Is a respiratory tract infection from the hogs. This kind of virus can kill the human race. This infection is a worldwide virus outbreak. Prevalence of swine flu is highly contagious and has spread very fast to 191 countries. Starting from America to Europe, Asia to Africa. Number of confirmed cases and death as on 18th September 2009. In India 7374 number of confirmed cases and deaths is 225. Nurses play a major role in rendering health related information to the individual, community and society; same like in swine flu also nurses are key personnel in rendering health information to the society. Hence the present study was conducted to assess the pre and post knowledge of staff nurses on prevention and management of swine flu. The data was collected from 50 staff nurses using structured knowledge questionnaire. The study results revealed that the mean post test knowledge score (25.08) was higher than the mean pretest knowledge score (9.06). Enhancement between the pretest and posttest was obtained by paired t” test value 20.10 for knowledge on prevention and management of swine flu at p< 0.0001. Which was extremely significant in improving the knowledge of staff nurses. There is extremely significant association between the demographic variables like age and the post test knowledge as the chi square value is 19.48 at p value > 0.001.
