ABSTRACT:
Background: Disaster preparedness is the creation of plans through which communities reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters. A family disaster kit is simply a collection of basic items a household may need in the event of an emergency or disaster.1 Objectives: To assess the knowledge on disaster preparedness and family disaster kit among adults and to find the association between knowledge and selected variables. Materials and Methods: Descriptive survey design was used to assess the knowledge on disaster preparedness and family disaster kit among adults. Descriptive statistics and Chi-square were used. Results: The study shows that majority of samples were having average knowledge (85.6%) and knowledge on disaster preparedness and family disaster kit have no significant association with selected variables which was tested at 0.05 level of significance. Conclusion: This study will further help in creating awareness among the participants and to motivate them to prepare a family disaster kit.
