ABSTRACT:
Introduction: A teaching method comprises the principles and methods used for instruction. Commonly used teaching methods may include lecture, demonstration, video assisted teaching or combinations of these. The choice of teaching method to be used largely depends on the information or skill that is being taught, and it may also be influenced by the aptitude and enthusiasm of the students. Objectives- 1)To assess the practice score of second year B.Sc. Nursing students [group 1] on bag technique after video assisted teaching using checklist. 2) To assess the practice score of second year B.Sc. Nursing students [group 2] on bag technique after lecture cum demonstration using the practice checklist. 3.) To compare the practice scores of video assisted teaching method on bag technique with lecture cum demonstration method. Methods- The investigators developed a conceptual frame work which was based on cognitive learning theory. A Evaluative Research Approach was used Quasi Experimental research design [only posttest research design] was used. The tool used for the data collection was observational checklist which comprised 18 steps of bag technique. The sample was 40 students from Second year B.Sc. Nursing students & were divided into two groups of 20 Data gathered was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics in terms of frequency, mean, standard deviation, paired ‘t’ test and independent ‘t’ test. Result-the major finding of the study were: Regarding the existing practice of the B.Sc. nursing students there was a maximum students had good practice bag technique. The overall mean of the video assisted teaching practice score of B.Sc. nursing second year students 14.95 is apparently. The level of practice were seen in four categories, poor average, good and excellent of B.Sc. nursing second year students in video assisted teaching 1(5%) has poor level to practice, 6 (30%) has average level of practice, 11(55%) has good level of practice and 2(10%) has excellent level of practice and in lecture cum demonstration method 0(0%) has poor level of practice, 11(55%) has average level of practice, 8(40%) has good level of practice, and 2(5%)has excellent level of practice. Conclusion- The major findings revealed that both the method of teachings enhanced the practice of the B.Sc. nursing students on bag technique.
