ABSTRACT:
Cleanliness in health care facilities is a vital component to prevent various diseases or infections. Adequate knowledge and application of the knowledge by the patients and their relatives serves as key point in maintenance of cleanliness in hospital. The objective of present study was to assess the knowledge and expressed practices regarding maintenance of cleanliness in hospital premises among relatives of patients admitted in IPD at AIIMS, Jodhpur. Present study has been carried out by using quantitative approach with descriptive research design. Purposive sampling technique was used to draw the 100 relatives of patients admitted in IPD at AIIMS Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Self- structured questionnaire with interview schedule was used to assess the knowledge and expressed practices regarding maintenance of cleanliness in hospital premises. The study result shows that majority of the subject (80%) had an average knowledge, 18% of the subjects had good knowledge and only 2% of the subjects had poor knowledge related to maintenance of cleanliness. The study findings also reveal that most of the (99%) the subject had good expressed practice and 1 % of the subject had average expressed practices. Study findings also shows that there was a positive correlation between knowledge and expressed practice regarding maintenance of cleanliness in hospital. The correlation coefficient value was 0.67. From the present study it was concluded that the patient relatives had an average knowledge and good expressed practices regarding maintenance of cleanliness in hospital premises.
