ABSTRACT:
Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of STP on care of children with genetic disorders among III year B.Sc Nursing students. Design and Method: A one group pre test – post test design was used. A sample of 78 students was selected by convenience sampling technique. Descriptive statistic like percentage, mean, standard deviation and inferential statistic like paired ‘t’ test, was used. Result: The result shows that in pretest 70 (90%) students had inadequate knowledge, 8 (10%) students had moderately adequate knowledge regarding care of children with genetic disorders. In post test 9 (12%) students had moderately adequate knowledge and 69 (88%) students had adequate knowledge regarding care of children with genetic disorders. Conclusion: The result revealed that after Structured teaching programme there was improvement in the level of knowledge of III year B.Sc Nursing students. Such a teaching programme can be carried out in the hospital and community to improve the health of children and thereby reduce the morbidity and mortality rate among children.
